Prediction in geomorphology
AGU, Washington, D.C.(ISBN: 0875909930).
Modeling in geomorphology, as in other geophysical sciences, is now pervasive. Although research papers effectively disseminate information about individual models, there are few formal outlets for discussing the broader aspects and objectives of modeling in the Earth sciences. Prediction in Geomorphology addresses these issues:
# What do we model and why?
# What are the advantages of different approaches?
# How do we evaluate whether a model is correct or useful?
These issues are relevant to modeling in any geophysical science. This book will appeal to scientists and researchers engaged in modeling the Earth's surface, particularly in geomorphology, hydrology and ecology, which share similar challenges regarding scale; application to social needs; and the contingent nature of Earth surface processes.
