Example phase portrait of channel geometry model

2d cut through 3d phase portrait of dynamical system model of channel cross-sectional geometry. Three trajectories (Ta, Tb, Tc) illustrate evolution of unstable initial channel geometries (Ia, Ib, Ic) into equilibrium form (Fs). Trajectories are for integrated solutions of channel model for a broad-tailed PDF of river discharge, while solutions F10, F100 and Fm illustrate simpler solutions for fixed discharges Q=10, Q=100 and Q=Qm (cumecs). Axes are channel width (at base, quadrilateral cross-section) and base tilt angle.
